There was plenty to talk about leading up to Monday Night Football, but in the end, it was all about Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The Chiefs took home a 28-7 victory over the Washington Commanders, and at home, while Kelce earned himself another milestone.

Kelce tied the Chiefs' all-time record for regular season touchdowns with a third quarter score off a throw from Patrick Mahomes. That gave Kelce 83 regular season touchdowns. After the game, his quarterback had this to say in light of the record:

"That's the true Chief of Chiefs. He is the guy that was here before me. He sets the culture. He's the guy that's in the building early, in the building late. And he's the leader of this team. To be able to get him that record tied... let's go out and break it now," Mahomes said on the live broadcast.

Patrick Mahomes shed light on a Travis Kelce truth many seem to be forgetting

Kelce now shares the record with another Chiefs legend, former Kansas City running back Priest Holmes. Of course, Mahomes' desire to help Kelce go out and break that record will very likely come to fruition in the near future.

In light of his now sharing the all-time Chiefs record, some seem to forget the sentiment coming from Mahomes in the above quote about Kelce.

He's right. Kelce is the Chief of all Chiefs. With all of the buzz and notoriety that Mahomes gets, and rightfully so, it was Kelce who was there before him. It was Kelce who saw what life was like before Mahomes.

Today, it's Kelce who is in the building early and out late. And, it's Kelce who is still producing and could wind up with his first 1,000-yard receiving campaign in three years. The past two seasons, Kelce has heard all of the labels; aging, old, slow, washed, etc.

Yet, his 6-catch, 99-yard performance against Washington just goes to show he can still produce at a high level when called upon.

Of course, we're not going to talk about the drop which led to an early Mahomes interception because that doesn't fit with the tone, here.

All kidding aside, it wasn't a pretty drop. Yet, he came back and made up for it in a big way, and the Chiefs won. That's what matters most -- and the fact that Kelce is now one score away from breaking the record.
