It's likely impossible for the Kansas City Chiefs to not have entered Week 16 with some level of worry about the ankle of Patrick Mahomes. After all, the team watched the star quarterback suffer an ankle sprain only six days prior,
After watching the Chiefs' opening drive, however, you can guarantee all such worries have been officially laid to rest.
It was just last Sunday that the Chiefs were able to put away the Cleveland Browns in Week 15 on the road, but the downside was that Mahomes suffered a mild high-ankle sprain in the process and entered the week as a variable going forward.
Carson Wentz was at the ready for the Chiefs as the QB2 at the end of the Browns' game and came into this week ready to take the starter's reps in practice, but Mahomes never acquiesced the position for a single practice session. instead, Mahomes proved that he could handle any discomfort early on. By the end of the week, Mahomes wasn't even on the Chiefs' injured list.
Coming into the game, Mahomes' ankle was still a major talking point, however, and when the Chiefs took control on offense after forcing the Texans to punt to open the game, all eyes were on him. Thats' when Mahomes not only scrambled 12 yards on a long second down earlier in the drive but then completed the drive with his courageous run.
The idea of Mahomes silencing his doubters is nothing new. We should have known this would be the script.
