Kansas City now proudly boasts two playoff teams: the Chiefs and the Royals. The City of Fountains can also claim to have two bona fide MVP candidates in both sports: Patrick Mahomes and Bobby Witt, Jr.
And while this is a Chiefs website, many of us are all Royals fans too. So, in lieu of the Chiefs’ offseason, depth charts, draft prep, and predictions, we figured we would honor the start of the 2025 Kansas City Royals season by trying to see what a batting order and starting lineup of Chiefs players might look like.
Creating the Chiefs' ultimate baseball lineup
1.) Trent McDuffie, 2B
The star defender leads off for the Chiefs because he is always making plays. Pound for pound, McDuffie might be the best hitter on the team.
2) Leo Chenal, LF
Chenal is a star in clutch situations, but the main reason we have him batting second is because he always makes great contact.
3) Patrick Mahomes, SS
Mahomes is a gifted acrobat with the ball in his hand and can make any throw. He and McDuffie form the perfect tandem up the middle.
4) Chris Jones, DH
Jones always comes up with a big hit when the Chiefs need it most. He is also a huge man at 6’6” 310 lbs., and as intimidating as it comes in the batter’s box.
5) Travis Kelce, 3B
Kelce is cool enough to man the hot corner, and when at the plate, he can always find an open spot in the field to keep the line moving.
6) George Karlaftis, 1B
The young defender is solid in the field and an absolute dog at the plate. A relentless hitter, he will go toe-to-toe with any pitcher for as long as he needs to.
7) Drue Tranquill, RF
The former Charger is a reliable hitter, and the Chiefs depend on him a lot defensively. A leader in the clubhouse, Tranquill is a good "glue guy" and covers right field with ease.
8) Nick Bolton, C
The Mizzou alum is a hard hitter at the plate and a smart leader in the field. Bolton is heavily relied upon to guide the pitching staff and direct the defense. He's also the last person you want to see waiting for you at home plate when rounding third base.
9) Xavier Worthy, CF
Worthy dazzles in center, covering a lot of ground. He’s not the strongest hitter, but when he gets on base for the top of the order, he is an absolute weapon on the base paths.
Starting Pitcher: Charles Omenihu
Would YOU want to stand in the batter’s box against him? I wouldn’t.
Closer: Harrison Butker
When the game is close, Butker is the ace-in-the-hole for the Chiefs. He’s always waiting in the wings to slam the door on the opponent.
