For all of the injuries suffered by various players on the Kansas City Chiefs so far this season, there's only one name that matters most when it comes to the team's ability to remain successful on the field: quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Unfortunately, Mahomes scared Chiefs Kingdom with what looked like an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the team's Week 9 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mahomes suffered the injury on the same play in which he flipped a touchdown pass to running back Samaje Perine to tie the game at 17-17 as the fourth quarter got underway. Mahomes had a difficult time walking across the field and was seen in the blue medical tent by Kansas City's training staff.

If Mahomes had been unable to return to the game for the next series, the Chiefs offense would have turned the reins over to backup quarterback Carson Wentz. However things were positive given that Mahomes was seen trying to jog and warm back up once out of the medical tent.

The Chiefs have been here before in small doses when dealing with a kneecap injury/dislocation that caused Chad Henne and then Matt Moore to fill in for him at midseason back in 2020.

Ultimately, Mahomes was cleared to return following the scare, but the potential injury is a reminder just how valuable Mahomes is to the team in so many ways. Let's hope he's okay going forward on that same ankle.
