The Kansas City Chiefs made changes to their coaching staff over the offseason. The biggest was the return of Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator, a role he held from 2018 to 2022 before moving on elsewhere.
Well, after several down years offensively, the Chiefs saw the error of their ways and Bieniemy is now back in the building. Patrick Mahomes is clearly hyped to have his old offensive coordinator back and spoke about that during his latest press conference.
"He has brought in a lot of concepts and a lot of things that I’ve really liked that we’ve added in now. It’s good to have him back in the building and having that energy back. A lot of these guys haven’t had an EB. They understand it and honestly, I think it’s been cool. They’re really receptive of it. Even though it’s hard, there’s hard days. They know why we’re doing it. You can see the guys, and they want to be great, and they want to be better than we were last year," Mahomes said. "I love it, man, I truly do. I think you can feel it in the meeting rooms. The way he carries himself, with the confidence that he carries himself with, it really focuses you in on what you’re learning and the little details of things. It’s been exciting to me, that first meeting had me wanting to run through a brick wall, it had me ready to go.”

The Chiefs' offense had plenty of success under Bieniemy's tutelage. It wasn't until he left in the 2023 offseason that we saw the offense take a dip. The unit simply wasn't as proficient under Matt Nagy as it was under Bieniemy and hopefully his return takes us back to those better years offensively.
We've already seen the Chiefs giving Bieniemy a solid run game to work with, as they signed reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker to a contract and drafted Emmett Johnson in the fifth round. The wide receiver position might need some work still but hopefully, with Bieniemy in the building, the offense looks more like it did during his time with the team than it has the past few years.
