The Kansas City Chiefs are 6-7 and, for the first time in Patrick Mahomes' career, it's looking as though the team will not be making the playoffs. It's a strange feeling, but Mahomes isn't entirely devoid of blame in the situation. He threw three interceptions in the loss to the Texans versus zero touchdowns and looked off all night long.
Give credit where credit is due though. The Texans defense was hyped up as one of the league's best coming into this game and it didn't disappoint. Mahomes went on to have one of the worst games of his career, throwing those three picks I already mentioned and only 160 yards through the air. He did rush for 59 yards but was unable to score a touchdown with his arm or his legs.
Before the game was over, Greg Auman of Fox Sports posted on X that Mahomes was on pace to do something he had never done before. For once though, this wasn't a good thing, as you can see in the post below.
If Patrick Mahomes finishes with zero passing touchdowns, multiple interceptions and less than 50 percent completions, it will be the first such game in his NFL career.

Mahomes did indeed finish the game with zero passing touchdowns, multiple interceptions, and a percentage completion of 42.4. He made history but certainly not the good kind of history and it's truly a shining example of what a disaster this 2025 season has been for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes reaches a painful new low in loss to Texans
This season just wasn't meant to be for the Chiefs. From their Week 1 loss to the Chargers, it was clear that something was off but we all felt confident the team would get things cleaned up and be right there when it was all said and done. Now, however, after seven losses and some rough performances from Mahomes, it's clear that this year's team ain't it.
Hopefully, this is a wake-up call to everyone in the front office. The Chiefs have been blessed with a franchise quarterback and this is a wasted year of Mahomes' prime. Even with the lousy numbers the Chiefs quarterback put up in this loss, K.C. still had a chance to win that game and failed to do so.
So while yes, Mahomes was certainly partially to blame for the loss, it wasn't all on him. His receivers dropped catchable passes, his o-line is basically put together by duct tape at this point, and the playcalling has been straight-up laughable. Something's got to give and perhaps missing the playoffs will force some much-needed roster reconstructing this offseason.
