The Kansas City Chiefs are set to enter the 2026 NFL Draft in a rare spot, possessing a top 10 pick. Set to pick ninth overall, Kansas City could go in a number of directions with the pick, but one thing is clear: the Chiefs have an opportunity to add another elite player to the roster. It’s just a matter of who that player will be.

NFL insider Peter Schrager recently predicted who that player would be, mapping out the entire first round in his first mock draft of the year. For the Chiefs, Schrager had the franchise selecting Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the ninth-overall pick. Not only would that be somewhat of a surprising pick because of Tyson’s polarizing standing as a prospect, it would shake up the draft, because Schrager has him as the first receiver off the board — a rarity amongst recent mock drafts.

Schrager only does two mock drafts every year, and he prides himself on accuracy. That’s why the first mock draft comes out in the first week of April, following the NFL’s annual league meetings, and the second comes out the day before the draft starts. Schrager likes to lean on the information he gathers as an insider to put together a fairly accurate mock draft.

He recently spent time with all of the decision makers throughout the league at the annual meetings, including having a sit-down interview with Chiefs general manager Brett Veach. It’s fair to assume Schrager has some intel into Kansas City’s thinking.

Still, the Chiefs selecting Tyson would open eyes throughout the NFL, for multiple reasons. On one hand, Tyson is arguably the most talented receiver prospect in the 2026 class. However, he’s also a prospect with an injury history that could scare a lot of teams away.

Schrager highlighted the polarizing reality of Tyson, appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday to talk through his mock draft. The insider revealed that since releasing the mock, he’s had a general manager message him with shock that he sees Tyson making it to nine, and a different general manager expressing that he doesn’t think the receiver will be selected in the top 20.

That makes Jordyn Tyson an intriguing option for the Chiefs at No. 9 — especially if every receiver is still on the board. Tyson would be viewed as a gamble who could either emerge as a star, or a player the franchise regrets using a top-10 pick on.
