The Kansas City Chiefs could still use an upgrade at wide receiver and a solution is out there for them. Stefon Diggs is still without an NFL home for the 2026 season and Kansas City could make a whole lot of sense as a landing spot for him.
NFL insider Jeremy Fowler dove deeper into this potential pairing during a recent episode of the John Keim Report. When discussing Diggs' next NFL team, he listed the Chiefs as a potential match for him.
"Kansas City makes some sense. It would be a fit and they could use an extra body. But Kansas City hasn't really been in spend mode so I don't know that they want to do that and go that route. We'll see. And they just gave Patrick Mahomes more money. But that would be a fit for me," Fowler said.
Stefon Diggs could give Chiefs boost they quietly still need
On paper, sure, Diggs makes sense for the Chiefs. They could use help at wide receiver and Diggs is coming off a 1,000-yard season with the Patriots. He was clearly a favorite target of Drake Maye and also proved to be one of Josh Allen's favorite weapons when the two played together in Buffalo.
On the other hand, as Fowler noted, the Chiefs haven't been spending money, especially not at the receiver position and they did just (deservedly) pay Mahomes more money. Diggs might want more money than what the Chiefs can realistically offer him and another wide receiver-needy team could easily come knocking with a better offer.
As we know, the Chiefs are planning on entering the 2026 season with Rashee Rice, Tyquan Thornton, and Xavier Worthy as their starting wide receivers. It's not a bad group necessarily but it does leave more to be desired, especially because all three of these guys were on the roster a season ago and K.C. didn't have much production offensively, even with a healthy Mahomes.
The depth behind them also isn't great, as fifth-round rookie Cyrus Allen, second-year player Jalen Royals, and newcomer Jimmy Holiday would likely be the first ones up if an injury occurred to the starting three. That's not great depth.
For a team with one of the best quarterbacks in the league, wide receiver continues to be a position that's largely ignored. Bringing Diggs in would not only buck that trend but it'd give Mahomes a talented player that he could rely on down the field.
