The Kansas City Chiefs might be down in the dumps after getting smacked by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59, but that's no reason to take a sledgehammer to the organization. Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes will always have this team in a position to compete for Super Bowls.
However, there are some cracks starting to show in the foundation. With the pieces around Mahomes starting to fall away, Mahomes' performance this season behind his usual all-time great standards, and Reid's age becoming a factor, Kansas City is by no means as feared as it once was.
Even taking that into account, Reid's job is ironclad. That is, unless you are of the persuasion that led Rob Parker to uncork one of the worst Chiefs takes in recorded history.
Parker, on his FOX Sports Radio show, said that he believes Reid and the Chiefs need to part ways, saying this "fall off the cliff" has been years in the making. Parker followed this brilliant take with the all-time quote, "last year, they won the Super Bowl, so it kind of covered up how bad things were."
As always, that logic is unassailable. Fire a Top 3 coach in NFL history after five Super Bowl appearances in six years. Brilliant.
Rob Parker says Chiefs and Andy Reid should part ways in ridiculous segment
Reid, who will turn 67 in March, has already committed to at least one more season in charge of Kansas City. While his offenses have taken a step back, one wonders if getting a true No. 1 receiver and being a bit more vertical could help change all of that for Mahomes and the offense.
Since 2018, the worst finish to a season Kansas City has had was losing in overtime of the AFC Championship game to the Bengals after failing to score in the extra period. If that is the floor for Reid and the Chiefs, that doesn't seem like a structure and leadership group the Chiefs will be begging to move off from.
The Chiefs may need to make minor tweaks along the way, like getting a new voice in the room on offense or adding more playmakers, but that shouldn't be a predecessor to firing Reid. At this point, Reid has earned the right to walk out on his own terms, as he will lead this team to the postseason with ease whenever all his best components are healthy.
