New reports should squash any Chiefs fans' thoughts of Brian Daboll reunion

The Kansas City Chiefs and their fanbase have some right to complain about how the offense has looked under Matt Nagy in the last few years, which has led some very vocal fans to demand that he be replaced with someone in possession of a bit more pizzazz.

With the New York Giants finally coming to the realization that Brian Daboll was not going to be the guy who leads this team back to its pedestal as one of the NFL's gold-star franchises, many teams will be in search of him as their next offensive coordinator. While Nagy, who may get some head coach looks once again, is not amazing, the latest reports on Daboll might not make him the best target.

Per Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Daboll has a bit of a temper on the sidelines, as he was heard berating former DC Wink Martindale and current Giants OC Mike Kafka. His weekly sideline tirades became so pronounced that GM Joe Schoen started listening in on Daboll's headset during games to make sure he was talking in a relatable way.

That doesn't seem like someone the Chiefs need right now, especially as he works his way back from being fired.

Chiefs should not pursue Brian Daboll for OC after latest rumors

Daboll's Chiefs, which split 16 starts evenly between Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn during the 2012 season, were dead last in the league with 13.2 points per game, all while throwing just eight touchdown passes against 20 interceptions. This was as bad a Chiefs offense as has ever existed.

Daboll's biggest claim to fame, other than making Dart look alright for a few games, is how well he worked with Josh Allen. However, leaning on that to make an OC hire could prove lethal. Not only is Allen so uniquely talented that he likely would have emerged irrespective of Daboll, but Allen's rise was over a half-decade ago. Daniel Jones went from pathetic with Daboll to sensational without him.

Pair that with the fact that he is apparently a volatile coach who has proven unable to effectively install the principles of his offense, and you get someone who might not be a good fit for someone like Patrick Mahomes. After all, Mahomes may be looking for someone with a more collaborative mindset.

Nagy is far from a whiz kid as far as coordinators are concerned, and the Chiefs may need to move on due to either poor performance or interest from other teams, but it seems hard to envision a world in which Daboll comes in and he takes the Chiefs' passing game back to Eric Bieniemy-levels of explosiveness.
