Mitch Holthus' radio call of Chiefs game-winning field goal doesn't disappoint

Best in the biz.

The Kansas City Chiefs found another unusual way to win a football game with their latest victory, a 19-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, ending with Matthew Wright's field goal attempt doinking off the left post and between the uprights to give K.C. its 12th win of the season and ninth straight AFC West title.

Not only was this a doinked field goal that went the right way for Kansas City but Wright is the team's third kicker of the season after Harrison Butker and Spencer Shrader both were injured. Wright had previously spent time with the team in 2022 but is back as the Chiefs wait for Butker to return.

The win itself was fun, of course, but for those of you waiting to hear Mitch Holthus' call of the field goal, you won't be disappointed.

"Winchester snaps it, placement is down, Wright's kick is up and the kick is.... GOOD! GOOD! GOOD! And the Kansas City Chiefs do it again! The third kicker this season to have a walk-off field goal! And this one wins the game 19 to 17 and gives the Chiefs nine consecutive AFC West championships! That is second in National Football League history for division dominance!"

Mitch Holthus' game-winning field goal call is a must-listen

The great thing about this call is that Holthus isn't saying anything crazy. He's just a great storyteller and it's not hard to see why Chiefs fans who might not be listening to him in the moment flock to try and find his calls for key moments because they never disappoint.

The Chiefs were trailing by one with 4:35 remaining in the game but as we know with this team, that's not much for them to overcome. Patrick Mahomes executed a 14-play, 79-yard drive that was capped off with a nine-yard pass to Travis Kelce, which was enough to move the chains and give the Chiefs a fresh set of downs.

Mahomes knelt twice to keep the clock running since Los Angeles didn't have any timeouts and out came Wright to attempt the 31-yard field goal. You know the rest. It wasn't enough that the Chiefs' third-string kicker was the one to make the game-winner but it had to hit the post and bounce in to give K.C. another strange victory.

The win paired with Buffalo's 44-42 loss to the Rams now puts K.C. two games ahead of the Bills for the number one seed in the playoffs. The Chiefs finish their season against the Browns, Texans, Steelers, and Broncos while the Bills have the Lions, Jets, and Patriots twice.
