Mitch Holthus' radio call of Chiefs' blocked field goal is the stuff of legends
Kansas City Chiefs fans are still shaking their heads and wondering what the heck happened during the final seconds of Sunday's win over the Denver Broncos. It sure felt as though the Chiefs were about to suffer their first loss in nearly a year but the magic that's followed the Chiefs throughout the majority of Patrick Mahomes' career popped up again.
Leo Chenal blocked what would have been the game-winning field goal, handing the Broncos a 16-14 loss and moving the Chiefs to 9-0. They're the first reigning Super Bowl champion to start the next year at 9-0 since the Green Bay Packers in 2011 (who went 13-0 that year).
Winning a game the way the Chiefs did on Sunday is exhilarating enough as it is but to do it against a division rival made it that much sweeter. Mitch Holthus didn't disappoint with his game-winning call either but at this point, it'd be more shocking to say that one of his calls wasn't a banger.
Chiefs fans will love Mitch Holthus' call of the blocked field goal
"It's blocked! It's blocked! It's blocked! The Chiefs blocked the kick! They're gonna stay undefeated! The Kansas City Chiefs blocked a 35-yard field goal attempt! KAN-SAS CITY WINS THIS GAME ON A BLOCKED FIELD GOAL!"
Holthus is the best in the biz with his calls in key moments and this moment didn't disappoint. It's amazing that even with him simply just telling us what happened that the call is as impressive as it is but it's all about the enthusiasm and Holthus excels at that.
Not only was Holthus' call a shining example of what broadcasters should study but the Spanish call of the blocked field goal is a must-listen as well.
The foreign language radio calls are always fun because even though the average person doesn't know what's being said, you know what happened on the field and can match that enthusiasm with the words. The Spanish call above is a lot of fun and worth a listen.
Chiefs fans are fortunate to have so many great broadcasters who really bring the game to life. Whether you're listening to them because you don't have access to a TV during the game or because you prefer the radio broadcast or whatever your reason might be, fans know they won't be disappointed with the product they're hearing.
