It's the Kansas City Chiefs' world and we're all just living it. Thirty years ago, the same could be said for the Dallas Cowboys, who were in the midst of their dynasty, something that Michael Irvin was a part of.
Well, fast forward to the present day and the Cowboys have not only made a Super Bowl since their dynastic run, they haven't even made it to an NFC title game. Despite this, Irvin is still very protective of the "America's Team" title that the Cowboys have been given and doesn't want another team snatching that from his former team.
Irvin appears intimidated by the presence of both Taylor Swift and Caitlin Clark and thinks they could help the Chiefs become the new "America's Team".
“We’re going to talk about Caitlin Clark and Taylor Swift at the Kansas City Chiefs game,” Irvin said. “They’re trying to make that [happen]. Those are two good old American girls. They’re trying to make those Chiefs -- they’re trying to steal America’s title.”
Michael Irvin is freaking out about the Chiefs becoming the next America's Team
The Chiefs have been a completely different franchise since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback in 2018. When the Chiefs reached the AFC Championship Game that season, it was the first time they had done so since Joe Montana had been donning the Chiefs red and gold.
When K.C. won the Super Bowl in the 2019 season, it was the franchise's first championship in 50 years. When they made it back the very next year, that was when people had grown tired of them and by the time they won their second title in three years, the villain arc was officially on.
Once Swift and Travis Kelce started dating, the villain era for Kansas City was ramped up even more. People think that Swift's presence has made the team even more insufferable and for those of us who were fans before all of the success, it's quite odd to be honest. Here was a team who didn't do much of anything for five decades and now everyone hates them and is intimidated by them.
As for Irvin's complaint, the Cowboys don't deserve to hold onto the America's Team title in the first place but to think that Swift and Clark are going to be the reasons why the Chiefs become the new America's Team is foolish. Maybe give the players some credit there, Irvin.
If the Chiefs did hold this title, however, could anyone argue against it? Kansas City has been in four of the last five Super Bowls and won three of those. No one could blame the title-givers if they snatched the "America's Team" crown from the Cowboys, who haven't won anything in 30 years, and gave it to the Kansas City Chiefs.
If teams have a problem with it, try winning a Super Bowl.
