Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman was exactly the type of player who could wake this team up out of the funk they found themselves in during their poor first half against Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos. The electric speedster nearly pulled off the unquestioned best play of the week on a return.
Hardman returned a missed Wil Lutz field goal and set about trying to improbably run it back for a touchdown. After darting to the 30-yard line and breaking multiple Bronco tackles before reversing field, it looked like he was actually going to pull off the nigh-impossible move that so few have actually done in the pros.
Alas, Hardman was stopped right around midfield, and it helped the Broncos head into haltime with a lead. However, his effort will not be forgotten, as few players in this league could have even taken things as far as he did.
Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman narrowly misses insane missed FG return touchdown
Hardman looked like Dante Hall at points, stopping on a dime and reversing direction before getting back to his top speed immediately. Hardman's return skills make him a deadly weapon.
Considering how much Hardman actually ran on the play, many were speculating that he ran upwards of the full length of the field just to make it past the 40-yard line.
Even though this is just a regular season home game in November against an old foe in Denver, Hardman completing that run and ending up with a touchdown could have been one of the best plays in franchise history in terms of pure degree of difficulty
Hardman's effort was so exhausting that fans watching at home would not be blamed for a second if they found themselves out of breath keeping up with him.
Hardman didn't look like himself with the Jets, but he is back to his old tricks now that he's in Chiefs red.
The Chiefs still have a long way to go if they want to complete the comeback, but Hardman is certainly doing his part.
