It is unofficially official. Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is on the hunt for a new job.
After missing out on becoming the new head coach of the Tennessee Titans, a job he had been linked to for months and was heavily favored to get, the Chiefs have ushered Nagy out the door already by hiring his replacement.
Rumours of a reunion between Kansas City and former OC Eric Bieniemy surfaced earlier this week, and while officially announced by the team, the move was all but confirmed when the official NFL account on X posted that Bieniemy was back.

So, after missing out on his most likely role in Tennessee and having been shown the door by the Chiefs, what comes next for Nagy, a former AP NFL Coach of the Year winner? It appears that an unlikely hook-up with an old foe could be in the cards: the Philadelphia Eagles.
Nagy reportedly interviewed for Philly’s vacant OC position on Wednesday, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. Former Eagles offensive playcaller Kevin Patullo was fired two days after Philadelphia’s disappointing 23–19 loss in the Wild Card round at home to the San Francisco 49ers.
Matt Nagy is weighing a shrinking list of offensive coordinator options around the NFL.
Curiously, it’s a move that could actually seem unattractive to both Nagy and the Eagles. Philadelphia was arguably the most tumultuous team in the NFL last season, with tension on and off the field between star players, the coaching staff, and the front office as well. It would take a brave person to walk into that environment willingly.
Meanwhile, Nagy might not be seen as the most exciting OC option either. Questions of potential perception concerns arose during the hiring process regarding Nagy in Tennessee, and the Chiefs were inclined to move on even before knowing Nagy was unavailable to return.
A move to Philadelphia would see Nagy coach for a team that has arguably been Kansas City’s biggest Super Bowl rival over the last four years. Nagy and the Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII before Philly exacted revenge two years later after the defense dominated Kansas City’s offense.
There are also the connections that both his former boss, Andy Reid, and potential new boss, Nick Sirianni, have with each other’s teams, having each won Super Bowls against their former employers after being let go.
Sirianni was on Kansas City’s coaching staff for four seasons but was not retained by the team when Reid took over. He coached with the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts before taking on the top job in Philly. Reid was Philadelphia’s winningest head coach before he, too, was not retained after his contract expired—only to go on to win three Super Bowls. Maybe Nagy will follow that same path.
Philadelphia isn’t the only job Nagy has been linked to. He completed formal interviews with the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago and also had an interview with the Las Vegas Raiders. He is described as a “candidate” for the Arizona Cardinals’ top job as well, according to Arizona’s official team website. He has not been linked with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, or Cleveland Browns. Alongside the Eagles, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only team that currently has a vacant offensive coordinator position.
Where Nagy ultimately lands remains to be seen, but after a turbulent few months, his next home will say a lot about how the league views his stock.
