The Kansas City Chiefs have been using camp and the preseason to prepare for the upcoming season. They took several swings to bolster the roster, which included trading up to select cornerback Mansoor Delane with the sixth overall pick.
He started camp wearing a yellow non-contact jersey. He was dealing with a shoulder injury he suffered in OTAs and was limited. Kansas City even held him out of the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams, but things took a positive turn on Monday.
Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com posted a video of Delane walking onto the practice field wearing a regular jersey for the first time this summer. That's a huge step, and the team wasted no time. Sam McDowell from the Kansas City Star reported that Delane was out there with the starters, with Nohl Williams lining up at the other corner spot.
Delane was drafted to be their CB1 and it looks like he's getting healthy at the right time.
Chiefs fans should love what Mansoor Delane showed in full practice
During a 1-on-1 drill, Delane lined up against receiver Cyrus Allen, but the former shut him down. Allen didn't create much space running a curl route, and Delane was right there to break the pass up. While on the ground, Delane was clapping, as he was happy to win that rep.

Delane also lined up against Nikko Remigio and Rashee Rice in 1-on-1s and didn't allow a catch to either receiver. These are all great developments for both Delane and the Chiefs. The fact that Kansas City threw him out there with the starters shows the confidence they have in the rookie.
And his play in those 1-on-1 sessions gave them more confidence in their decision. The biggest thing from this session is that Delane seems to be fully healthy. While he was still on the practice field, he wasn't able to participate in full capacity. That looks to be behind them and gives him four full weeks of practice before the season begins.
He will also get some reps in the preseason, and those live reps are valuable. Delane quickly flashed in practice, and some of those strengths were exactly what draft experts saw.
In his scouting report and player rankings, The Athletic's Dane Brugler raved about Delane. "Delane plays with the route anticipation and temperament to stay attached in coverage and squeeze catch windows," he wrote.
You immediately saw that during Monday's practice, and that should have fans excited. Head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters after practice and was happy with what the rookie did.
"Delane did practice today. Did everything. Was in all of the drills and looked good. Was good work for him as he goes through that," Reid said.
The arrow around Delane continues to aim up. The Chiefs will lean on the LSU product to be a driving force in the secondary, and he's already looking the part.
