Kansas City Chiefs fans are more ready than ever to kick off this next season. After a 2025 campaign to forget, and for so many reasons, there is likely a good amount of Chiefs fans who have tried to remain patient.
Sitting back and allowing other fans to enjoy their five minutes of fame isn't easy, especially when it's, oh, let's specify here shall we ... Denver Broncos fans. After one good season, there are some Broncos fans who have continued to enjoy the 2025 season way too much.
And now, after the latest bit of news, the Chiefs and their fans are going to be able to turn the tables around real fast.
It has been officially confirmed that the Chiefs are going to play the Broncos on Monday Night Football to conclude Week 1 of this coming season.
The Chiefs can now flip the tables on the Broncos in a hurry and never look back
It will have been 263 days since the Chiefs lost a completely meaningless game to those same Broncos led by Bo Nix who, by the way, didn't exactly dominate a Patrick Mahomes-less Chiefs team.
Let's make sure we remind Broncos fans that Nix and company hardly escaped with a win. That final score was just 20-13 and, again maybe for some Broncos fans who don't quite recall, the deciding Broncos touchdown happened to come in the fourth quarter after the score was tied at 13 apiece.
Have we made this clear enough for Denver? Do we all remember just how not dominant the Broncos were against a team that had to start Chris Oladokun at quarterback?
Now, as the Chiefs prepare to take on their bitter rival in Week 1, the biggest question in the coming weeks and months will be whether or not they'll have Mahomes under center.
But, even beyond any questions about Mahomes' health and status for that contest, the Chiefs have an opportunity to really make a statement. Even if it's Justin Fields for that game, the Chiefs are good enough to beat the Broncos -- period.
This Chiefs roster is a little different, but it's still a strong one. And it's still led by the same top-tier coaching staff.
Most of all, this Chiefs team is one who will not have forgotten what had happened several months back. The last time these two teams met has not gotten lost in the minds of those Chiefs players who were on the field for that game.
With or without Mahomes, the Chiefs can kick off the 2026 season with a huge statement. A win over the Broncos would both remind the world that the Chiefs are back and also, it'd remind the Broncos that they are not as invincible as their fan base might believe they are.
