The Kansas City Chiefs came into MetLife Stadium desperately needing a win against the New York Giants to avoid an early season collapse before taking on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4. That task just got a bit harder when the Chiefs watched starting safety Bryan Cook go down with an injury in the fourth quarter.

With the Chiefs holding onto a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, Giants quarterback Russell Wilson tried to find wide receiver Malik Nabers on a deep throw into the end zone from 45 yards out when both Nabers and Cook came up injured.

The Chiefs are quite thin at safety after watching Bryan Cook head back to the locker room.

Cook was holding his neck after the play, which was incomplete, and the Chiefs training staff went ou to take a prolonged look. Nabers was able to walk off the field, while Cook required more time before being able to get up and walk off the field as well.

Cook was designated as questionable to return with a neck injury.

The Chiefs took Cook back to the locker room for further evaluation which leaves an already inexperienced unit looking thin. Chamarri Conner and Jaden Hicks are the starters at this juncture without Cook with Christian Roland-Wallace, who had an interception earlier in the game, playing a depth role there.

If Cook remains out for any length of time, the Chiefs have two safeties on the practice squad. Mike Edwards is a familiar face who has been with the team before and is hanging around among the reserves. Jammie Robinson is a newer signing who was just added after roster cuts were made. He spent last season with the Arizona Cardinals.

Cook is in his contract year for the Chiefs after being selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. In his fourth season in K.C., Cook has held down a starting spot since 2023 and has taken over a leadership role in the secondary for Kansas City after the team watched Justin Reid depart in free agency to sign with the New Orleans Saints.

Cook has 160 total tackles, 10 pass deflections, and 3 interceptions in 47 career games with the Chiefs.
