Kevin Harlan's call made Chiefs' game-winning blocked field goal even more epic
It sure felt like the Kansas City Chiefs were about to lose not only their first game of the 2024 season but their first game since Christmas Day last year. The Denver Broncos had the Chiefs on the ropes, taking the ball all the way to K.C.'s 12-yard line before lining up to attempt a game-winning field goal.
Wil Lutz only had to make a 35-yard attempt in order to hand the Chiefs their first loss in 11 months but, as we see all too often in the NFL, chaos ensued. Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal got his hand in there and blocked Lutz's attempt, giving the Chiefs the two-point win and pushing them to a 9-0 record while dropping the Broncos to 5-5.
Not only did the Chiefs get the win but with Kevin Harlan in the broadcast booth, you know the game-winning call was going to be a banger. And a banger it was.
Kevin Harlan doesn't disappoint with Chiefs' game-winning call
Harlan rarely disappoints whenever he's calling a key moment and once again, he didn't here. As soon as the field goal is blocked, Harlan yells "OHHHHHH! BLOCKED! THE CHIEFS HAVE WON! THE CHIEFS HAVE WON!" with the even funnier part of this call being that you can slightly hear Trent Green, former Chiefs quarterback, chuckle during the epic call.
The Chiefs once again found a way to win an ugly game and that's what Super Bowl-caliber teams do. Just when it looked as though they were about to suffer their first loss in nearly a year, the special teams unit came through and said "Nope, not today".
The win continues to put the Chiefs in the driver's seat as far as the playoff seeding is concerned. They'll continue to sit in the number one spot for the AFC side and we know that whenever the playoffs kick off, this team shifts things into a completely different gear. Win ugly in the regular season so you can kick things into overdrive in the playoffs.
In conclusion, Harlan's call was great and I'd really like to start a petition to have him call every Chiefs game from now until the end of time. He's that good.
