The 2025 season was a weird one for the Kansas City Chiefs. They recorded a losing season for the first time since 2012 and failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014. That meant that this offseason was even more important for Brett Veach, as he needed to do everything in his power to get the Chiefs back into Super Bowl contention.

Kay Adams thinks he did just that. Adams was discussing Patrick Mahomes and his eventual return to the Chiefs lineup on her show, Up & Adams, on Monday. She mentioned that the moves the Chiefs made in the offseason showcase just how confident they are in his ability to return in Week 1. Furthermore, she thinks the team did enough to be right back in contention in 2026.

"I think the way the Chiefs handled this offseason is very telling about what they expect from this team and from the man himself, Patrick Mahomes, in 2026," Adams said. "They add Kenneth Walker, huge, huge get. They bring Eric Bieniemy back... Those are moves that sort of scream 'We're committed to the run game.' After they ranked dead last in efficiency, dead last in pop, explosiveness on the ground, not even just last year, we're going back to three seasons. But look at what they did in the draft too. They didn't end up taking an offensive player until running back Emmett Johnson, and that was Day 3... They went all in on addressing the defense, which says to me that they think E.B. and Walker are going to be more than enough to jumpstart this offense and not just jumpstart it, fast start in a really tough division. They got to keep it going, and they will. This will only help Patrick, help the defense, all the things."

Kay Adams loves what she's seen from the Chiefs this offseason

It's hard to argue with what Adams is saying here. The Chiefs clearly are confident that Mahomes will be back to his usual self when the season kicks off and Veach put a major emphasis on revamping the rushing attack, which has been a big weakness for this team in recent years. Kenneth Walker and Emmett Johnson's presence should hopefully be enough to get that unit going again.

Simply giving Mahomes a good run game to lean on will help immensely. It's something he hasn't had for most of his pro career and could make all of the difference for this offense moving forward.

Re-hiring Eric Bieniemy as the offensive coordinator is also a big move for Kansas City, as this offense was firing on all cylinders with him at the helm. The former running back knows what it takes to succeed in that department and should be able to get these new weapons up to speed.

It's hard not to be excited about what the Chiefs did in the offseason and hopefully, Adams' take ends up being spot on.
