The Kansas City Chiefs added Kader Kohou this offseason hoping that he could give them a boost in their new-look secondary. While Chiefs fans might not have known much about Kohou before he arrived in Kansas City, he's clearly going to be missed by Miami, which is where he spent the first three years of his career.
Brian Miller of Phin Phanatic listed five former Dolphins that the team should have tried to retain this offseason and Kohou made the cut.
"Miami wasn't ready to give the slot corner another contract, but they may regret letting him go. Kohou signed a one-year deal with Kansas City for $1.8 million, an easy and absorbable amount.Kohou was a valuable piece in the secondary. Given the roster's current uncertainty at the position, having Kohou available would have provided the team with a veteran who was still developing and had done well when given the opportunity. Kohou will return to Miami with the Chiefs in Week 3 of the season."
Chiefs clearly got a good one in Kader Kohou
As Miller noted, the Dolphins weren't willing to give Kohou the type of money he felt he deserved. Meanwhile, the Chiefs had no problem tossing him an affordable deal and now he's off to Kansas City and fans are keeping their fingers crossed that Steve Spagnuolo can work his magic on Kohou.
Miller also pointed out how Kohou's veteran leadership would have been valued for Miami's young secondary and that's something else K.C. can benefit from. The two starters alongside Kohou are projected to be Nohl Williams and first-round rookie Mansoor Delane so if he can come in and help coach those guys up, this will be an even bigger get for the Chiefs.
The Dolphins' loss is hopefully the Chiefs' gain. Here's to hoping that the Chiefs got themselves a massive gem in Kader Kohou.
