Update: Fortunately the Chargers have Herbert back in the lineup after taking a scary hit.
The Los Angeles Chargers are hoping that the scary sight in the second quarter on Sunday Night Football is nothing lasting. That's because Justin Herbert, the team's star quarterback, had a hard time getting back up after taking a big hit when unleashing a pass downfield.
Taylor Heinicke was forced to come into the game as Herbert sought medical attention on the sidelines.
The Chargers are in Kansas City to play the Chiefs in a primetime affair and the second scheduled game of the season between the rivals. So far, the game has been a stiff defensive battle featuring one punt after another, but Herbert had just completed a nice throw down the field to Quentin Johnston when he got hit.
Unfortunately for the Chargers, Joe Alt was called for holding on the same play so the pass didn't even count.
Herbert went down after getting hit by Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton. There was no flag on the play and you can see the hit below:

There is perhaps some good news in the way things are looking after Heinicke came into the game on the sideline. While nothing is official yet, it could be that Herbert really got the wind knocked out of him and just needed time to reset for a play or series on the sidelines.
Justin Herbert is on the bench with the other quarterbacks and doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Would think he's coming back in the game on the next drive.
