As fans, we have to take every small win we can get during the offseason. For Kansas City Chiefs fans, the next small "win" is knowing the full 2026 schedule. As is the case every year, though, we get bits and pieces dropped ahead of time.
One of the latest schedule leaks came when it was announced the Chiefs would take on the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football to conclude Week 1. Almost immediately after the news broke, iconic broadcaster Joe Buck was on Good Morning America and was able to react in the moment:
"Well, we know Patrick Mahomes is not human. He probably healed after a week. But, he's evidently ahead of schedule.
"Bo Nix missed the AFC Championship Game with a bad ankle, but he is supposedly good to go and will be ready for training camp. So, hopeful that within that matchup, we get Mahomes and Nix which makes it that much better."
Joe Buck is every Kansas City Chiefs fan reacting to the news of a massive Week 1 MNF showdown
First off, Buck's comment on quarterback Patrick Mahomes was both funny and true. No, he obviously didn't heal up within a week. But, after an ACL tear, Mahomes has reportedly been ahead of schedule and looks fantastic.
The fact Mahomes is going to participate in OTAs is rather astonishing. But, Buck nailed it. Chiefs fans want to see Mahomes in Week 1, if healthy, of course.
After the way last season ended and seeing the Chiefs lose a meaningless game to these very same Broncos, the fan base is not just ready for revenge. They're ready to dominate Denver. That's what Chiefs Kingdom wants to see.
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is going to be ready way ahead of Week 1 after suffering an ankle injury late in the year, and he'll be ready to roll against the Chiefs. The Broncos are going to get a taste of a healthy Chiefs team, hopefully with Mahomes under center, and when that happens ... good luck, Denver.
Everyone wants to see both Mahomes and Nix on the field against each other.
There are those Broncos fans that seem to think he's the second coming of Jesus, at least on the football field. But, if Mahomes is starting that game, that Denver fan base is going to get to watch the best quarterback of the last decade. Nix is a far cry from Mahomes, and we all know it (well, at least everybody except a select few Broncos fans, apparently).
