They say timing is everything, and that goes for both positive and negative situations. The Philadelphia Eagles are feeling the effects of an ill-timed illness currently making its way through parts of the roster in the days leading up to Super Bowl LIX.
The Eagles are set to face the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9 for the chance to lift the Lombardi Trophy in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, but apparently they're going to have to make sure they can play first.
Per John Clark of NBC Sports, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio updated the press on Jalen Carter's condition in practice on Thursday saying that the defensive lineman was limited and that other members of the team were also dealing with an illness making the rounds.
Obviously this is going to be a key point to watch in the next few days as the Eagles hope to keep the illness at bay and maintain a healthy roster heading into the biggest game of the season.
The Eagles were already working through a few key injuries before coming into this new illness. Running back Kenny Gainwell was already dealing with a concussion and knee injury and was also limited in practice earlier this week. Cam Jurgens, offensive lineman, is dealing with ongoing back issues. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith has a hamstring concern, but it's also not kept him from playing in previous games despite resting to heal up before those contests as well.
Carter is a vital component of the Eagles' pass rush and all eyes will be on forthcoming injury reports on Friday and for any further word from Nick Sirianni's team into the weekend. Even the loss of one player to an unfortunately timed illness could make the difference in a game between two loaded rosters.
