While the Kansas City Chiefs get a week off to prepare for their divisional round match-up in a week, the Las Vegas Raiders are on the first of many weeks off. The Raiders finished with a paltry four wins and will be watching the playoffs from home, something the organization has grown accustomed to over the past few decades.
To make the Raiders' misery even better, the team once again will be searching for a new head coach after firing Antonio Pierce after one year on the job. This is the same Pierce that the Raiders players pushed the front office to hire and now he's out the door after one year (and having to try to win games with Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell, and Desmond Ridder at quarterback).
The firing was clearly something that didn't bode well with star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby, who spoke about the departure of his head coach on his podcast. Crosby noted how this season didn't go according to plan for the Raiders and how he's about to have yet another new head coach.
"Being here with the Raiders, like I've seen a lot... I mean I'm gonna be on a new head coach again... This will be the fifth head coach we've had or whatever so we'll see."
The "We'll see" part of Crosby's quote correlates to him talking about his future with the Raiders organization. He mentioned that he has "to make the decision that's best for [him]" and it's hard not to fault the guy for being frustrated with the team that drafted him. Since Crosby arrived at the Raiders organization in 2019, the team has only had one winning season (that did see them reach the postseason) and cycled through four head coaches.
As Crosby alluded to, this will be the fifth head coach he's had since entering the league and that has to be difficult. It's hard to get acclimated when the Raiders are constantly doing a changing of the guard at the head coaching spot.
Chiefs fans wouldn't mind if Maxx Crosby wanted out of the AFC West
For Chiefs fans, they're hoping the latest firing of Pierce is what finally sends Crosby over the edge of wanting out of the Raiders organization. He did say in that clip that he'll have to wait and see who the team ends up hiring so it's not like he was saying he for sure wants out but wouldn't it be nice if he did?
Crosby has been a headache for the Chiefs but they managed to keep him mostly in check this season, only allowing him to sack Patrick Mahomes once (though he did hit him four times in their meeting on Black Friday). Chiefs fans would much rather Crosby call a different division home and maybe this will be the tipping point for him. One can only hope.
