Isiah Pacheco's electric run signals his official return back to Chiefs offense
By Matt Conner
For the last nine games, the Kansas City Chiefs have enjoyed the presence of running back Kareem Hunt who has done a more-than-admirable job of filling in when needed. The reunion with Hunt after five seasons away with the Cleveland Browns has even been one of the best stories of the season so far.
Yet as much as Hunt has provided for the Chiefs, it's also true that some element has been missing from the offense—a level of explosiveness out of the backfield that can spark the offense with big plays. That's what the Chiefs lost when Isiah Pacheco fractured his fibula back in Week 2 and it's what they've gained now that he's returned to the lineup.
The Chiefs are hosting the Raiders in Week 13 on a special Black Friday broadcast (thanks, Amazon), which means K.C. was forced to play on a short week following their win over the Carolina Panthers just five days prior. The reality is that Pacheco was healthy enough to play then, but the Chiefs saved him (and pass rusher Charles Omenihu) for the second game when considering the importance of their long-term health.
Pacheco didn't take long to make his presence felt in the game. Early on, he received an incredible ovation from Chiefs Kingdom upon his return to the field in the first half. Meanwhile shortly after the teams returned for the second half of the game, Pacheco was given a chance to show what he can do. He responded with an electric run of 34 yards.
Yes, that was the longest running play of the season for the Chiefs' ground game, just one more than a memorable scramble by Patrick Mahomes.
If you're wondering where that energy comes from, it was apparent he was excited to go before the game even began.
Together with Hunt and Samaje Perine, the Chiefs now look like they have an incredible wealth of talent at their disposal as the season enters the stretch run.
