The Kansas City Chiefs took a flier on Hollywood Brown in 2024 hoping that he could be a contributing factor on offense. Unfortunately, an injury sidelined him for all but two games that year. He returned for the 2025 season and failed to make the kind of impact that fans were hoping for.
That made it easy for the Chiefs to let him walk in free agency and he ended up signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly looked to have a promising situation at wide receiver but with injuries to Devonta Smith and rookie first-rounder Makai Lemon, it opened the door for Brown to prove that he deserves a bigger role with his new team.
Unfortunately for Brown, that might not be as easy as it sounds. If everyone is healthy, Smith is WR1, newcomer Dontayvion Wicks is in line to win the WR2 job, and then it'd be a competition for WR3 between Brown and Lemon. But, another contender might have entered the chat.
Hollywood Brown could already be losing Eagles WR3 job
Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia recently reported that wide receiver Darius Cooper had an awesome day on Monday. That then led to Anthony Miller of Inside the Iggles, FanSided's Eagles site, to speculate that Cooper could be close to passing Brown on the depth chart.
"Cooper is quickly becoming the star of training camp for the Eagles, as he once again had an incredible practice with the team," Miller wrote. "Most thought Hollywood Brown would take [WR3] over, but Cooper might be the better choice. Brown has had a decent training camp, but he is still trying to build chemistry with quarterback Jalen Hurts... Eagles fans are ready for a Cooper breakout 2026 season, but Brown might be the odd man out and could land a spot on the bench. When Cooper is playing as well as he has, it's hard to argue against putting him in the lineup right now."
The good news for Brown is that there's still going to be a role for him in Philadelphia. The bad new is that it might not be the one he anticipated having. Brown probably knew he’d have to fight for a starting job with his new team. However, doing so against Darius Cooper, who went undrafted just over a year ago out of the powerhouse that is Tarleton State, probably wasn’t on his radar.
That's the reality of the situation for Brown though. He's not out of the fight yet but the former Chiefs wideout will certainly have his work cut out for him this summer.
