The Kansas City Chiefs don't appear to be bringing back veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Smith-Schuster is working out for the New York Giants along with Odell Beckham Jr. and Braxton Berrios.

Smith-Schuster first signed with the Chiefs in 2022 after spending the first five years of his career with the Steelers. Smith-Schuster had 933 receiving yards and three touchdowns during that 2022 season and then signed with the Patriots the next offseason, which didn't work out for him. He re-joined Kansas City in 2024 and also was on the roster in 2025 but wasn't a huge part of the offense in either year.

JuJu Smith-Schuster is working out with the Giants

It's not surprising that K.C. didn't opt to bring Smith-Schuster back. He'll turn 30 years old this season and hasn't had a good year in the pros since that 2022 campaign in Kansas City. The Chiefs could use help at the position, especially with Rashee Rice's off-the-field issues, but Smith-Schuster isn't the solution, at least not at this stage of his career.

As far as his chances with the Giants go, New York has injuries at the position, which explains why they're working out three different receivers. Gunner Olszewski tore his ACL in practice last week and Malik Nabers is still recovering from a torn ACL early in the 2025 season. Darius Slayton is also dealing with an injury so to say the Giants are thin at the wide receiver position is an understatement.

Perhaps Smith-Schuster is being brought in for a workout due to his experience with Matt Nagy, who is now the offensive coordinator in New York. Maybe he'll find his next NFL home or maybe it'll be back to the drawing board for the former second-round pick. Either way, it doesn't appear that a reunion with the Chiefs is in the cards for JuJu Smith-Schuster but fans wish him well.
