The 2026 NFL Draft is only a few weeks away and all eyes are going to be on the Kansas City Chiefs, who are picking in the top 10 for the first time in nearly a decade. The Chiefs hold the ninth overall pick in the draft and there have been plenty of mock drafts linking them to Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr.
This would be a welcomed pick amongst the fanbase given how underwhelming the Chiefs pass rush was in 2025. To say that Bain could be a massive addition to that unit would be an understatement.
Someone who would love to see Bain end up in K.C. is former NFL defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who played in the league for over a decade. McCoy took to X to share how he really felt about Bain, noting that the Hurricane edge rusher could be an All-Pro in Kansas City with Joe Cullen coaching him on the defensive line.
"Rueben Bain will be just fine with the right coaches..." McCoy posted on X. "Send him to Joe Cullen and guarantee he'll be an all-pro. BUT everybody ain't Joe Cullen."
Gerald McCoy says Rueben Bain Jr. could be an All-Pro with Joe Cullen
The Chiefs could definitely use Bain to bolster their pass rush, which finished the 2025 season ranked in the bottom 10 of the league. Bain tallied 9.5 sacks for the Hurricanes last year and was a massive reason why they reached the National Championship game.
As for Cullen, clearly he's a well-respected guy and worked with McCoy during their time in Tampa Bay together in 2014 and 2015. He joined the Chiefs coaching staff in 2022 and has remained the defensive line coach since arriving in Kansas City four years ago. He's had some great players at his disposal and the defense was a driving force in why the Chiefs won it all during the 2023 season.
While Bain would be an excellent pick for the Chiefs at nine, they have eight teams picking ahead of them in the draft so there's a chance he'll already be snagged by another team. The good news is that we know the Raiders are taking Fernando Mendoza, so really it's just seven teams that could be a threat to Kansas City when it comes to Bain and where the edge rusher could end up.
If McCoy is already hyping up the Bain to K.C. noise, however, it's going to be hard not to continue to pumped up about this potential pairing.
