Anyone watching the Kansas City Chiefs play in primetime in Week 3 is thinking the same thing as Gehrig Dieter. Unfortunately, as of press time, there's still a full half of football to be played.
Perhaps the Chiefs come out swinging following halftime. Maybe Andy Reid finds a way to inject some momentum into his players in the locker room. Perhaps coaches will take some chances. It'd also be nice if players could stop committing penalties left and right. Because the current product on the field against the New York Giants in Week 3 is depressing.
Dieter knows this team quite well, as a former Chiefs wideout who remains friends with several players on the current roster. So just know that things are real when he's having to say this, too.
The Chiefs might not be good

While it's still early in the 2025 season, the truth is that the Chiefs have presented far more evidence for being a very mediocre team with major roster concerns than being the reigning dynasty working some kinks out. They came out terribly flat in Week 1 in a season-opening loss in primetime to the Los Angeles Chargers. Then a pathetic offensive performance cost them the game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2.
For those who wanted to blame travel to Brazil for the team's lackluster effort in Week 1, or who wanted to give the Eagles credit for being the reigning Super Bowl champs in Week 2, the Giants were teed up on the schedule in Week 3 for the team to return to its dominant ways—or at least to look a little better than they have through two weeks.
Instead, Week 3 feels like another comedy of errors. A stalled-out ground game. Mahomes missing Travis Kelce on a weird pass that made everyone wonder what happened. Weird backward passes. Andy Reid and Kelce yelling at each other on the sidelines. And so many penalties killing drives on offense and extending them on defense.
So much of the first half was tough to watch as Chiefs fans, but perhaps it makes more sense through the lens that Dieter is presenting. Maybe this Chiefs team just didn't that good. All good things must come to an end, goes the saying, but it's tough to watch in real-time as Chiefs fans. Hopefully things get back on track soon.
