Former Chiefs receiver now firmly on thin ice with current team

Is this the end?

Kansas City Chiefs fans definitely still keep up with former players who once called K.C. home. One such player who spent several years with the Chiefs and is still in the league years after leaving Kansas City is Demarcus Robinson, who might be nearing the end of his pro career, or at least the end of his time with his current team.

Robinson, currently a member of the San Francisco 49ers, was recently predicted by a Niners beat writer, to not make the final roster. Matt Barrows posted his prediction for which receivers would make San Francisco's final roster and Robinson did not make the cut.

Robinson joined the 49ers last offseason, signing a two-year deal with them after spending time with their division rival Rams, and San Francisco hoped he'd be a nice target for Brock Purdy. That's not quite how things played out, as Robinson had just 22 catches for 276 yards and one touchdown. Not exactly game-changing numbers.

Former Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson could be cut by the 49ers

Barrows predicted the 49ers' wide receiver room to consist of Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsall, Christian Kirk, De'Zhaun Stribling, Jordan Watkins, and Jacob Cowing, leaving Robinson the outs. They brought in Evans and Kirk this offseason and spent a high draft pick on Stribling so it wouldn't be shocking if these new additions left Robinson on the outside looking in.

The Chiefs drafted Robinson in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Florida. He spent the first six years of his career in Kansas City with his best seasons coming in 2019 and 2020. He never had more than 470 yards or four touchdowns in a single season but he was a consistent depth piece for the offense.

After his time in Kansas City came to an end, Robinson bounced around the league. He played for the Ravens in 2022, the Rams in 2023 and 2024, and now he's signed with the 49ers, but, as noted above, he might not be long for San Francisco.

Robinson has never been a superstar by any means and considering he's entering his age 32 season, opportunities for him in the league might shrink. Maybe he ends up sticking around with the Niners or maybe they cut him and he finds a home elsewhere. Either way, for a fourth-round pick drafted a decade ago, the fact that Robinson has managed to stick around so long is pretty impressive.
