The Jacksonville Jaguars announced a couple of roster moves two weeks into training camp on Monday, and a familiar face for Kansas City Chiefs fans was involved. Former Chiefs offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum has found a new home shortly before the 2025 season is set to begin.
The Jags announced the signings of both Anchrum and defensive lineman Austin Johnson, who is himself a known name to Chiefs Kingdom after a couple of seasons in the division with the rival L.A. Chargers.
The Jaguars waived wide receiver J.J. Jones in order to help make room for the veterans.
Former Chiefs lineman Tremayne Anchrum finds a new home in Jacksonville as the Jaguars shuffle the roster midway through camp.
Anchrum was a late signing in free agency this offseason for the Chiefs in an attempt to secure some veteran offensive line depth after this year's first-year player draft. The Chiefs were young up front, and the signing of Anchrum gave them a known floor to compete with younger guys coming into minicamp.
After getting a closer look at the competition, the Chiefs clearly felt okay with their younger options as they released Anchrum in late June, just over one month after having signed him to a one-year contract.
A former seventh-round pick at No. 250 overall of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2020 NFL Draft, Anchrum was always a long shot to make the active roster of any team. However, he's carved out an impressive career for someone with such long odds, and he ended up appearing in 31 total games for Sean McVay's team from 2020-23.
Before joining the Chiefs, Anchrum also earned short stints with the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, and Houston Texans.
Anchrum brings championship experience to the Jaguars on two levels: from his playing days at Clemson, where he won two titles, to his tenure with the Rams, where he added a Super Bowl ring to his personal trophy case.
