A familiar face surfaced on the waiver wire late this week. That's never a good thing since it means a player has been released, but fortunately for Swayze Bozeman, he was picked right back up again.

Kansas City Chiefs fans will remember Bozeman from his recent year with the team in '24. Now, fans will hear him mentioned as part of the Cincinnati Bengals organization, after Cincy claimed Bozeman on waivers following his release from the New York Giants.

That Bozeman has ever called the NFL home for even a single short stint is a testament to his talent and hard work, considering the journey began all the way back at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Originally a safety, Bozeman brought those instincts to the linebacker position and became one of the most productive defensive players in the MACJC (when is the last time you heard of that conference).

From there, Southern Miss took notice and Bozeman racked up 50 games played with 168 total tackles, 12.5 of them for a loss, with 6.5 sacks and 1 interception in his career. While he was passed over in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chiefs had him in their sights and signed him as an undrafted free agent and a strong preseason display earned him a spot on the practice squad.

Bozeman got his first taste of NFL action in a Week 14 win over the L.A. Chargers as special teams help after being promoted before the game. He would go on to play three total games and even earned a handful of snaps on defense against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17. More importantly, Bozeman was active for the Chiefs' postseason run and got to experience a Super Bowl in the process.

After the Chiefs moved on, Bozeman found a home with the Chicago Bears shortly after that Super Bowl loss, but he was cut before active rosters were due in late August. From there, the Giants offered him a spot. He appeared in 6 games last season for them before returning this offseason but was cut last week before getting picked up by the Bengals.

Bozeman is the sort of player who becomes a trivia question down the road for diehard fans, but his ability to find work year after year in the National Football League is a heartening story for a kid who was once taking reps for the Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln.
