There are still several former Kansas City Chiefs who have yet to find a new home after two-plus weeks of free agency, but that list has diminished by one, as linebacker/special teamer Cam Jones has signed with the New York Giants.
From a technical perspective, Jones doesn't actually have a new home, as he'll be playing his home games in the same stadium he did this past season, which he spent as a member of the New York Jets, who, of course, share MetLife Stadium with the Giants. So, at least he doesn't have to move, which is nice for him, as most free agents who switch teams aren't afforded such a luxury.
Jones certainly isn't a big contributor on defense, but his play on special teams is solid, which is why the Chiefs kept him around for a couple of years.
Cam Jones was a late roster cut by the Chiefs ahead of this past season
Undrafted in 2023 out of Indiana—this is before the Hoosiers became a national powerhouse out of nowhere and started competing for championships—Jones signed with the Chiefs as a free agent and was given a three-year, $2.71 million contract that included a sizable bonus, which not every UFA receivers. So, Andy Reid clearly liked what he saw.
The Memphis native ultimately made the 53-man roster and appeared in every regular-season game for Kansas City over the next two seasons, also appearing in four postseason contests.
While only used sparingly in Steve Spagnuolo's defense, taking only about seven percent of the snaps in that regard in both the 2023 and 2024 campaigns, Jones was a regular on special teams, taking 622 such snaps over that time frame. And he did his job well, earning a 74.5 special-teams PFF grade as a rookie and an impressive 91.2 mark in his second season.
That said, however, Jones was waived as part of final roster cuts ahead of this past season, and we're thinking he may have been the final cut, with Reid replacing him with another undrafted free agent in Cooper McDonald. But that's mere speculation.
Nevertheless, Jones was quickly scooped up by the Jets, and he ultimately appeared in just 10 games for Gang Green in 2025, again playing mostly on special teams, as he took only one percent of the defensive snaps.
All in all over his three-year career, Jones has tallied 41 total tackles and one QB hit.
