It took Keondre Coburn some time to find a longer-term home in the National Football League following his selection by the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, the defensive tackle will be looking for employment once again after receiving his release from the Tennessee Titans at the start of training camp.
The Titans are shoring up their defensive front as camp gets underway, and general manager Mike Borgonzi decided to add free agent Jihad Ward to the mix. They also added former Atlanta Falcons tackle Timmy Horne, which meant the team needed to jettison Coburn to create a roster spot.
The Titans are trying to find some help along the line after learning that Lorenzo Carter was ready to retire instead of returning for another season after seven years in the league. Ward fit the bill as a veteran who played in all 17 games a year ago for the Minnesota Vikings.
As for Coburn, his time with the Titans is finished after a full season and change with the franchise. The Titans swiped him off the Chiefs' practice squad in the final weeks of the '23 season and he got a cup of coffee with 4 games of playing time by Week 18. He followed that up with action in 15 games last season for a league-worst Titans team that even gave Coburn the chance to start in Week 4.
The Titans liked Coburn enough to offer him an extension before the new league year, but the team liked other interior options as training camp has gotten underway.
The Chiefs drafted Coburn in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft as part of a draft class hoping to shore up the trenches with the selections of fellow d-linemen Felix Anudike-Uzomah and B.J. Thompson.
Coburn was waived by the Chiefs in October of his rookie season and the Denver Broncos claimed him in the process. However, he was released after a couple of weeks and landed back on the Chiefs practice squad before the Titans came calling a month later.
The 25-year-old Coburn is a now free agent.
