The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine will feel a bit less busy for Kansas City Chiefs fans scouring the wire for news. Typically, the franchise sends both its head coach and general manager to speak to the media during the blitz of reporting in Indianapolis, but Andy Reid is sitting this round out.
Reid already gave local reporters a special session the week before this year's Combine due to being limited by a recent knee surgery. That leaves Brett Veach as the only one speaking for the Chiefs in Indy. With sessions capped at 15 minutes, it's hard to tell just how much Chiefs Kingdom will find out this week.
It will help, of course, to have reporters lurking in the hallways at the Indianapolis Convention Center, so rumors are bound to swirl all the same, but fans can only hope Veach addresses the biggest concerns at the moment with promising updates. Here's what we hope to hear as the Chiefs' GM answers questions (at 11:15 C.T. on Tuesday).
1. An update on Travis Kelce
The most pressing concern for the Chiefs at the present moment is what tight end Travis Kelce will decide. After flirting with retirement one year ago, Kelce is doing the same following a 13th season in which he led the Chiefs in receiving yards and made his 11th Pro Bowl. Is he ready to call it career? There's very real momentum toward a return, but both sides were reportedly going to hold a post-Super Bowl meeting. Since then, no word has leaked from either side.
2. Further financial clarity?
The Chiefs' position relative to the salary cap was the worst in the NFL entering the offseason. Since then, they have restructured the contract of Patrick Mahomes and released defensive end Mike Danna after six seasons with the team. Yet even then, K.C. is still over the cap by $3.3 million (per OTC). More moves are coming, and they're coming soon with the new league year on the horizon. Veach will undoubtedly address the Chiefs' cap situation and offer some clarity on what else could be happening.
3. Draft class preview
Given that he's speaking from the Combine, it only makes sense for Veach to discuss the draft class from the Chiefs' perspective. No general manager is going to give away anything on a team's draft board, but expect Veach to at least give some insight into how the Chiefs are viewing the strengths and weaknesses of this year's class relative to the team's roster.
4. Tyreek Hill rumors
There are bigger fish to fry, of course, but Reid was asked about it so it's fair to expect that someone in the crowd will ask Veach his thoughts on the recent release of Tyreek Hill by the Miami Dolphins.
5. Clarity on Trent McDuffie's future
Within the last year, Veach has gone on record as saying that he has already talked to cornerback Trent McDuffie's reps about a potential contract extension. Now, however, there's very real chatter about the Chiefs' interest in potentially trading McDuffie to recoup some strong draft assets and to reorient the team's long-term finances. Anything feels possible ahead of McDuffie's fifth season, and how Veach speaks of his star corner could provide some insight into how things will play out.
