The Kansas City Chiefs overhauled their running back room this offseason in a move that was long overdue and desperately needed. One of the moves they made at the position involved spending a fifth-round pick on Nebraska's Emmett Johnson, who is already generating buzz despite not being with the team for long at all.

During an appearance on NFL Live, Peter Schrager mentioned that Johnson was turning heads at rookie minicamp.

" There is a little buzz there already about [the Chiefs'] Day 3 pick Emmett Johnson, the running back out of Nebraska. So whereas you lose Isaiah Pacheco, you also pick up a new Day 3 guy who led the nation in yards per scrimmage per game," Schrager said. "Emmett Johnson was the talk after that rookie mini camp."

Nate Taylor also chimed in and added to the Johnson buzz.

"He is the player that got a lot of receptions in rookie mini camp, showed a lot of speed, shows an ability to get yards after the catch as well. So he could easily be able to find himself a role as a rookie alongside Kenneth Walker."

Emmett Johnson is generating quick buzz with the Chiefs

This is obviously fun for Chiefs fans to hear because it's been a hot minute since the rushing attack was anything to write home about. With Patrick Mahomes coming back from a major injury, it was important for Brett Veach and the Chiefs to ensure that Mahomes had a run game to lean on while he finds his footing again. It seems like Veach has done just that.

Johnson was an absolute work horse in college at Nebraska, dashing for 1,451 yards and 12 touchdowns while also making his presence known as a pass-catcher. The Chiefs rookie had 370 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns during his senior year with the Cornhuskers. That's production that's hard to ignore.

It's also hard to ignore what Johnson's already displaying at rookie minicamp. Sure, it's early on and there's still a long road ahead but if the hype is any indication of what to come, Chiefs fans are going to be in for a treat.
