With the dust of the 2026 NFL Draft settled and front offices focused back on the remaining roster concerns, veteran NFL players are finally starting to get the phone calls they've been waiting for since the new league year started—at least. For Nazeeh Johnson, his wait might be ending if Howie Roseman and company like what they see.
The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting Johnson for a free-agent visit on Monday, per NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. The visit is the first reported interest on the open market in Johnson so far this spring.
Johnson has made public statements about how he read the market for himself, at least as far as his former employer was concerned. Johnson stated that he believed the Kansas City Chiefs maintained an interest in bringing him back after his four-year rookie deal was complete. However, the Chiefs haven't made any official overture and Johnson has remained available.
Johnson came to the Chiefs in the heralded '22 draft class that included a whopping five defensive backs. Every single one of those players have gone on to find new teams, save for Johnson. Trent McDuffie was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. Jaylen Watson followed him there in free agency. The Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals signed corner Joshua Williams and safety Bryan Cook, respectively.
Johnson deserves credit for ever making the Chiefs for four consecutive seasons as a former seventh-round choice. That said, the results were mixed and the journey frustrated by injury-marred seasons that kept him from making any consistent climb up the depth chart. Still, he remained a special teams core performer and earned enough trust from Steve Spagnuolo to start 6 games in 2024.
