With the ninth pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have a chance to do some major damage to the rest of the league. It took a disappointing 6-11 season for K.C. to land that high in the draft but now that the Chiefs are slated to pick in the top 10, the other teams in the league are terrified of what they might do.
There have been plenty of mock drafts linking the Chiefs to Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love. According to draft analyst Matt Miller, Love ending up in Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes is considered a worst-case scenario for the rest of the league.
"Being [at the NFL Combine] for two days now, I can tell you one thing I hear from everyone else in the NFL is 'Please do not let Jeremiyah Love fall to Kansas City. Don't let that happen. Do not give Patrick Mahomes Jeremiyah Love," Miller said last week on The Dan Patrick Show.
Matt Miller says Chiefs drafting Jeremiyah Love would terrify rest of NFL
This would certainly be a scenario that would downright terrify the rest of the league. The Chiefs had one bad season, then hypothetically are able to draft potentially the best player overall in the draft, and are right back where they're accustomed to being (in the Super Bowl) in 2026. None of the other teams want to see that happen but it very well could.
Before Miller dropped this quote, he mentioned how Love could go as early as third overall to the Cardinals so he might not even have a chance to be drafted by Kansas City. If he does make it to ninth, however, it feels like a strong chance he ends up with the Chiefs.
Miller did bring up how people said the same thing about Xavier Worthy landing in K.C. though and that hasn't really panned out the way people expected it to. He also said the Chiefs have plenty of other needs and he's definitely not wrong in saying so.
There's no doubt that Love would give the Chiefs the much-needed boost they need in the backfield. The run game has not been a strength for this team in several years and now with Mahomes coming off a major injury, the Chiefs need a better rushing attack to lean on. Love could give them just that.
Yes, the Chiefs have other needs in the draft but Love is absolutely one of the best players in this draft. With running back being as big of a need as it is for Kansas City, why not go big and swing for the fences in taking him ninth overall? The rest of the league would be downright horrified if this did happen.
