The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, who will play each other in Week 4, both being 1-2 to start the year probably wasn't on many people's Bingo cards. That's how the first three weeks of the season have played out though, with the Chiefs dropping their first two games to the Chargers and Eagles and the Ravens losing to the Bills and Lions.
With the two squaring off this weekend, The Dan Patrick Show made one of their poll questions about the two teams. "Who's in better shape right now, the Ravens or the Chiefs?" was the question and when initially asked the question, host Dan Patrick was leaning more toward Kansas City.
"It feels like we've seen the best that the Ravens are going to be from the standpoint of offense. You know, you lose to Buffalo, no shame in that. You lose to the Lions, the way you lost to the Lions would be really disconcerting because Ray Lewis isn't walking through the door, Terrell Suggs isn't walking through the door, Ed Reed is not walking through the door. You've gotta score a lot of points," Patrick said. "It still goes back to the Ravens defense. The Chiefs have a good defense. Now they don't have the offense that the Ravens have but I do think once they get a couple of their wide receivers back then we're gonna see if Kansas City is real. And maybe Kansas City still has Tyreek Hill in play."
Dan Patrick points to Ravens' lack of defense as reason Chiefs are in better shape
It's understandable to be concerned about the Chiefs' lack of offensive firepower through their first three games but it's also the same thing for the Ravens defensively. They've looked rough and the Bills and Lions both did pretty much whatever they wanted to against that defense.
As Patrick noted, the Chiefs at least have some hope when it comes to improving offensively since Xavier Worthy has been injured and Rashee Rice returns from his suspension in Week 7. Once K.C. gets those guys back, we'll see what this team really looks like. The Ravens don't have that waiting for them defensively.
While Patrick had the opinion favoring the Chiefs, Todd Fritz, one of the Danettes on the show, pointed to the divisions as why the Ravens are in better shape. The Bengals won't have Joe Burrow for most of the year and that was probably their stiffest competition. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have to fight off the Chargers and Broncos, both of whom have improved and L.A. has already beaten the Chiefs once this year.
Any of those arguments make sense and we'll truly see which team is better off when they meet up at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. Will the Chiefs offense that started to come alive stick around against a bad Ravens defense or will the Ravens defense show up and make this offense continue to look dreadful?
If the Chiefs offense can pick apart that brutally bad Ravens defense, this team is suddenly at .500 and the rest of the division and conference will certainly be squirming.
