The Washington Commanders are fading fast, and their general manager has reportedly made his choice. As the NFL's trade deadline looms large, Adam Peters seems committed to at least getting some value out of quickly depreciating assets for a team that's sunk in the NFC East.

NFL reporter Jordan Schultz has word that the Commanders GM is open to dealing veteran players before the deadline, a white flag waved in the face of the team's 3-6 record heading into the season's second half.

The Commanders' decision to sell off at least some players could play right into the Chiefs' deadline plans to bolster the offensive line. That's because Schultz mentions familiar faces like Nick Allegretti and Andrew Wylie as those being on the trade block.

The Chiefs are dealing with offensive line concerns as they limp into their bye week following a tough road loss to the Buffalo Bills. Pro Bowl right guard Trey Smith is dealing with back spasms, although he played in Week 9 despite missing practice. Meanwhile, right tackle Jawaan Taylor left Sunday's game with an ankle injury, and his status is unknown going forward.

Given that the Chiefs finished their loss to Buffalo with Wanya Morris manning right tackle, it could make sense to add some versatility and depth. That depends, of course, on how the Chiefs feel internally about their present options.

While Allegretti's return is a long shot due to the money involved, having signed a three-year deal worth up to $15 million in 2024. Wylie, on the other hand, is a desirable addition on paper. Wylie's familiarity with Andy Reid's offense after spending five years in Kansas City from 2018-22. In addition, he brings starting experience at guard and tackle, which could be an upgrade over Morris while giving K.C. another option inside if they wanted something more than Caliendo or Hunter Nourzad.

Josh Simmons is reportedly coming back after missing four games, so the tackle situation should be far less desperate going into Week 11 against the Denver Broncos. And perhaps that's enough for Veach to breathe easy. However, Smith's back and Taylor's ankle are the current worries for a line that made everyone nervous in 2024. It might be worth pursuing a reunion with Wylie to shore up the entire line and make sure Patrick Mahomes is protected for the rest of the year.
