Roster cuts have come and gone. Now that the dust has mostly settled, we can start looking at the Kansas City Chiefs' roster and getting acquainted with the players who are mostly locked in for the long haul.
Unsurprisingly, this year's roster is ripe with young talent and actually clocked in as the third-youngest roster in the league. Bill Speros of Rotowire unveiled the rankings of the oldest and youngest teams in the league and, as mentioned, the Chiefs currently are rostering one of the youngest squads in the NFL.
Chiefs are relying on young talent to get them back to the top
The only teams with younger rosters than Kansas City are the Dolphins (youngest team) and Browns, both of whom aren't expected to do much of anything this year. That probably doesn't make fans feel great, especially after the disappointment that was the 2025 campaign but there is a silver lining to this information.
Just last year, the fifth-youngest team in the league was none other than the Seattle Seahawks, who went on to win the Super Bowl. In 2024, the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles were the sixth-youngest team (K.C. was ranked fourth). In 2022 and 2023, two years where the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, Kansas City was crowned as the seventh-youngest team both seasons.
Simply put, having a young roster isn't as significant as it might appear on paper. Sure, the Chiefs have not had a roster this young in awhile but they've consistently ranked in the top 10 and it hasn't slowed them down much at all.
Chiefs fans shouldn't worry about young roster
The Chiefs are also a team that will have to rely on youth due to the big contracts they've given to their stars. It's a small price to pay for having a franchise quarterback and other strong players that helped the franchise win multiple Super Bowls.
Clearly, having a roster filled with younger talent is not a disadvantage and recent history proves just that. What's interesting though is that the oldest teams in the league are the Falcons, Rams, Steelers, Broncos, and 49ers. The Rams are the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl and teams like the Broncos and 49ers have decent odds to win it all as well.
While it makes sense why some might be down on the Chiefs to be in that conversation after what happened last year, the overall ages of their roster might not be as much of a factor as one might think it is.
