The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that former defensive tackle Bill Maas will be this year's inductee into the team’s Hall of Fame, honoring one of the franchise’s most feared and disruptive linemen of the 1980s.

The announcement was made during a press conference held with team owner Clark Hunt shortly before the second day of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Selected fifth overall in the 1984 draft, Maas made an immediate impact in 14 starts as a rookie out of Pittsburgh. His tenacity inside and ability to do the heavy lifting for the entire defensive front earned him NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in that first season.

Maas would go on to become a cornerstone of the Chiefs' defense for nine seasons—from 1984 to 1992. Known for his non-stop motor and ability to push the pocket. Maas was a two-time Pro Bowler (in both 1986 and 1987) who earned second-team All-Pro recognition in '86 as well. Such honors cemented his status among the league's best in his generation.

As the Chiefs navigated a changing era during the late ’80s and early ’90s—through myriad coaching changes and mixed results in the standings—Maas was a constant presence in the trenches, earning the respect of teammates and opponents alike. His 40 career sacks as a defensive tackle is No. 9 on the team's all-time list, a phenomenal total for an interior defender.

After leaving the game, Maas transitioned into a broadcasting career for 12 years. He's also been a fixture in the Kansas City community as a long-time resident and member of the Chiefs Ambassadors.

With his place in the Chiefs Hall of Fame secured for 2025, Maas is now forever enshrined among the ranks of the franchise’s defensive legends.
