Something has to give for the Kansas City Chiefs.
After Week 6, the team was 5-0 and sitting atop the AFC. After Week 7, they were shell-shocked after being completely dominated in all three phases of the game by the Seattle Seahawks. After Week 8, they were reeling after an embarrassing meltdown against the Denver Broncos. Just like that, the Chiefs are just another hopeful contender among many.
On paper, the New York Jets are visiting Arrowhead Stadium at the right time. The Chiefs have a few players on both sides of the ball who could use a statement game. The question is: how much of a fight will the Jets put up against such efforts?
Writers' predictions for Jets vs. Chiefs in Week 9
Maxwell Cashio
In a get-right game against the hapless Jets after two straight losses, Kansas City will find a way to keep us all from taking a nap during the second half. Chiefs 31, Jets 21
Matt Chabot
The Chiefs have their “get right” game and blow out the Jets. Kenneth Walker gets back on track and runs for over 100 yards, and the Chiefs' defense forces 2+ turnovers. Chiefs 38, Jets 14
Matt Conner
The Chiefs have their issues, but getting embarrassed in back-to-back road contests will have this roster playing with a newfound fire back at home. Fortunately, they'll get to channel that aggression with three consecutive lesser opponents, and it's hard to imagine the Jets putting up too much of a fight at Arrowhead. Chiefs 30, Jets 10
Bransen Gibson
After two tough losses in as many weeks, Kansas City can't afford to slip up against a poor Jets team. An agonising loss overshadowed an offense that had 399 total yards against Denver and I think we'll see the Chiefs put up similarly strong numbers against New York. The Chiefs have something to prove this week and they'll respond with a win. Chiefs 27, Jets 20
Lyle Graversen
The Chiefs were looking much better last week before melting down in the 4th quarter. The Jets are a bad football team and the Chiefs' combination of Patrick Mahomes and Kenneth Walker is too much for NY to keep pace with. Chiefs 30, Jets 16
Braden Holecek
Kansas City has to be able to get off the field more consistently on defense. New York is flanked by solid, young skill players on offense. The Chiefs cannot allow those weapons to keep this close. If the defense does their job most of the day, Mahomes and Co. should be able to capitalize. If the Chiefs do not look more comfortable returning home, then it will be a shaky few weeks before a big Thanksgiving showdown in Buffalo. Chiefs 34, Jets 17
Scott Loring
The Jets are slow, but they make up for it by being small and incompetent. They’re a good slumpbuster for the Chiefs, who need to get out of a 2-game losing skid. The Jets don’t turn the ball over well on defense (just one INT all season), so as long as the Chiefs protect the football, they should win handily behind their two-headed monster at running back. All eyes on Chris Jones, whose productivity has plummeted in 2026. Chiefs 33, Jets 26
Shawn O'Brate
Chiefs and Jets should never feel as close as they do this week. No Garrett Wilson (possibly) might be the perfect nail in the coffin for NY, though. With that said, the Chiefs D-Line HAS to get pressure against this O-Line if they want chatter to stop online. I think at least one DL player has a good game, sacking Geno at least twice or helping force a turnover in the secondary. Chiefs get back on track in a much-needed bounce-back game. Chiefs 30, Jets 20
Charles Robinson
The polls are closed, and the votes are tallied - the decision is clear. The Chiefs need a rebound game. And who better to provide that than Aaron Glenn and the Jets? Chiefs take out some frustrations at home in working to right-size the ship. Chiefs 41, Jets 16
Stacy Smith
The Kansas City Chiefs are desperately in need of a "get right" game after dropping two straight. Helps that they're returning to the cozy confines of Arrowhead. Kenneth Walker leads the way with a 100-yard day, Rashee Rice finds pay dirt again, and Mahomes has another three-touchdown day. Chiefs 24, Jets 14
Hunter Stanton
After some brutal losses, the Chiefs are hoping to bounce back this week against the Jets. I see them pulling away; however, I can see this being a nail-biter. Chiefs 27, Jets 17
Lucas Strozinsky
The Chiefs will win this game pretty comfortably, but it won't tell us anything about whether they can truly win a Super Bowl this season. The Jets have firepower on offense but not much else. Chiefs 31, Jets 17
