The Kansas City Chiefs have traded Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams and, in doing so, added three additional picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. They already had the ninth overall pick after a losing season and now they've added another first-round pick to their arsenal for April's draft.

While seeing McDuffie in a different uniform next year won't be a fun sight, the Chiefs clearly weren't going to have the money to pay him what he wanted. Now they get additional draft picks and McDuffie gets to play for another contender in Los Angeles. Here are the updated draft picks, courtesy of Tankathon:

Chiefs 2026 draft picks after Trent McDuffie trade

  • Round 1: Pick 9
  • Round 1: Pick 29
  • Round 2: Pick 40
  • Round 3: Pick 74
  • Round 4: Pick 109
  • Round 5: Pick 147
  • Round 5: Pick 168
  • Round 5: Pick 177
  • Round 6: Pick 210

The exact picks that the Chiefs got from the Rams in the McDuffie deal were the 29th pick, the 168th pick, and the 210th pick, which is a nice haul. They also received a third-rounder from L.A. in the deal.

This trade now arms the Chiefs with nine total picks in April's draft, which hopefully, will give Veach what he needs to rebuild this roster into a Super Bowl contender. When the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill four years ago, Veach used the picks from that deal to work his magic and get this team right back into the Super Bowl so let's hope the same fate awaits this team after another blockbuster deal.

The fact of the matter is that if a team wants to be a Super Bowl contender, these are the kinds of deals they have to make. McDuffie is a great player but if K.C. wasn't going to pay him, why not trade him now when his value is sky-high and get a haul of draft picks back in the deal?

The total breakdown of Kansas City's 2026 draft is that they'll now have two picks in round one, two picks on Day 2, and five selections on Day 3, including three in the fifth round. Veach will likely move some of these picks to move up or down but for now, this is what he and the Chiefs front office have to work with.
