Rewind back to the 2021 NFL season. The Kansas City Chiefs got off to a sluggish start but found their way back to the top of the AFC West, winning the division, and then awaiting the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round after taking down the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round.
As we all know, this game between the Chiefs and Bills was absolutely wild. Typically, when there's 1:54 remaining in the game, the score isn't going to change much. That was not the case in this game, as it changed three (yes, three!) more times before the clock reached all zeroes.
The Bills led 29-26 at that point but Patrick Mahomes marched the team into the end zone to take a 33-29 lead with 57 seconds remaining. Josh Allen and the Bills then scored to take a three-point lead, leaving only 13 seconds on the clock. Even the boldest of Chiefs fans probably thought the game was over. What can you do in 13 seconds?
Well, it turns out, you can tie the game as long as Mahomes is your quarterback. As we know, Mahomes got the Chiefs into field goal range where Harrison Butker tied the game. All of that happened in 13 seconds and the three lead changes happened in under two minutes. The Chiefs then went on to win the game in overtime. Absolutely wild.
Why is this game being brought up over three and a half years later? Well, first of all, because it's awesome and should always be discussed. Secondly, because former Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley brought it up on his X account.
While reposting former Bills running back Isaiah McKenzie's post where he said "Idk what's worse losing with 13 seconds left or the NFL season starting with me on the couch". Beasley then wrote, "I don't think anything was worse than losing with 13 seconds left. That s*** still stings."
Cole Beasley admits Chiefs’ 13-second magic still gives him nightmares
The only reason the 13 seconds isn't talked about more (even though it's still talked about plenty) is that the Chiefs didn't go on to reach the Super Bowl that year. They laid an egg in the second half of the AFC Championship Game against the Bengals in stunning fashion but the fact that they were even in that AFC title game was a miracle in and of itself.
The Chiefs managed to win that game against Buffalo despite trailing with 13 seconds remaining on the clock. It's not shocking that this loss still haunts Beasley, who could only watch as his defense allowed the Chiefs to move down the field, kick the field goal, and tie the game. He then could only continue to watch as K.C. won the toss in overtime, marched down the field, and won the game with a touchdown. That has to be a deflating feeling.
The fact that Beasley, who spent over a decade in the NFL with three different teams, crowned this as the worst moment of his NFL career definitely will put a smile on Chiefs fans' faces. Mahomes strikes again.
