The Kansas City Chiefs were back in practice on Tuesday at St. Joseph, their second straight day in pads. It's a pivotal time for rookies and vets alike to grow together and develop chemistry, particularly at important positions that seem up for grabs in completely remade units, from running back to the secondary.

Here's a rundown of Tuesday's activities and what we learned.

Special guests stop in

It's always fun to see some friendly faces hanging around, and the Chiefs had a few special guests on Tuesday. Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, quarterback Trent Green, and safety Tyrann Mathieu were spotted hanging around St. Joseph, although "spotted" is not the right word when discussing the former. Bowe had some fans thinking about where they could get the latest NFL fashions to accentuate their look.

Kahlil Benson is a first-teamer

Kahlil Benson, an undrafted free-agent signing out of Indiana, continues to surprise with the opportunities earned so far in Chiefs camp. Not only did he impress early at minicamp, but he's been trending upward in St. Joseph, even after the pads came on. Benson was once again the first player slotted into the right tackle spot, although Jaylon Moore worked his way in there as well.

Andy Reid continues to talk up Moore while giving early reps to Benson for several consecutive practices. He said on Monday, “Both of them can play, I think. We just have a young guy that we haven't seen do much, but he's got some talent, so let's see where that goes.” The Chiefs are clearly going to let the best man win at a pivotal position. This might be the single most important positional battle in Chiefs training camp.

The injury list looks familiar

The Chiefs were without a number of players in pads on Tuesday, but the majority of those were to be expected. Andy Reid already said that wide receivers Cyrus Allen (shin) and Xavier Worthy (shoulder) were going to need a day or two to recover from injuries sustained on Saturday, which means missing the second practice scheduled thereafter is very reasonable. Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (knee) and end Ashton Gillotte (hamstring) were also out. Both players should return to practice at some point, but no timeline has been given for either.

The newest addition was the only question mark, as cornerback Kristian Fulton reportedly did not practice. Details were not available as to exactly what was wrong with Fulton as of press time. Fellow cornerback Mansoor Delane continues to wear a non-contact yellow jersey as well.

Joe Bleymaier made his training camp debut

Joe Bleymaier is the Chiefs' passing game coordinator and has stepped up in the wake of Eric Bieniemy's absence to be with his family after a tragic shooting involving his son and wife just over a week ago. It was the first time that the Chiefs have put Bleymaier at the podium, which made it an interesting time to get a new perspective on various aspects of the offense.

Bleymaier spoke about Bieniemy and said the Chiefs offensive coordinator has been "reaching out more lately" even as he's away.

When it comes to Kenneth Walker, Bleymaier had a smile when thinking about his impact. "He’s going to be tough to tackle. He brings another element to the offense. I think it’s clear… some of our screens so far this camp, a lot of our runs, and then the play actions after that, all of that ties in together, so him with the o-line and how that opens up the rest of the field, it’s a credit to him. He’s been tremendous."

As for the biggest surprise on offense in training camp, wide receiver Cyrus Allen, Bleymaier gave some perspective as to how and why he's been showing out earlier than expected during the offseason and training camp. Despite the fact that Allen was out for the last couple of practices, Bleymaier had good things to say about Allen's potential.

"Early on, he grasped the playbook and what we asked him to do. That’s the mental. And he has a natural feel for space out there after the snap. So sometimes with young guys, when they’re learning the offense—where to line up, all the details of just getting out of the huddle—some of that, once the ball snaps, the natural ability gets shoved down a little bit. You could still see he was playing with that natural ability. So he’s got great physical traits. They were showing up after the snap. His mental stuff was good pre-snap. So you can build on that. That’s exciting."
