The Kansas City Chiefs' Sunday Night Football loss to the Houston Texans felt, in many ways, like the end of an era. This team's playoff chances, while still alive, are quickly fading away. The season that was supposed to be their triumphant return to the top of the league may be falling dramatically short.

But the Chiefs will likely rise back to the top. Patrick Mahomes isn't going anywhere, and this coaching staff is still capable of supporting him enough to make deep playoff runs. While tenured stars like Travis Kelce and Chris Jones won't be around forever, the Chiefs are still set to be one of the powers in the AFC for a while.

Unfortunately for one player, the loss to the Texans may have signaled more than the end of the Chiefs' reign atop the conference. Offensive tackle Wanya Morris could have just played his final game for Kansas City.

Wanya Morris' time as a Chief could be over after SNF loss

Since being drafted by the Chiefs in the third round back in 2023, Morris has seen plenty of the field. Due to injuries and poor performances by players above him on the depth chart, the young lineman started 15 games across his first two seasons with the Chiefs. His performances, while not horrific, were never enough to earn him a full-time role.

With Josh Simmons and Jawaan Taylor both nursing injuries, Morris got another opportunity to prove himself against the Texans. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury that could keep him sidelined for a significant amount of time. Andy Reid told the media, "I don't have anything to give you injury-wise, but Wanya's did not look good, but we'll be able to get you that later as we go."

Even before he got injured, Morris had been struggling this season. He's allowed three pressures on just 30 pass-blocking snaps and has been penalized twice. Against the Texans, rookie UDFA Esa Pole outperformed Morris by a wide margin.

Morris still has one year left on his contract, but there's a real chance that he just played his last snap in a Chiefs uniform. The team could choose to cut or trade him in the offseason, especially if Pole continues to play at a high level. Morris has never been able to find his footing in Kansas City, so it may be time for him to try his hand elsewhere.
