Chiefs rumors: Hollywood Brown could return in time for postseason

On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs made a major move to bolster the wide receiving corps at a much needed point near the midway point of the regular season. As it turns out, they might be getting another major boost near season's end.
If things turn out favorably for the Chiefs, NFL reporter James Palmer says the team might be able to get Marquise "Hollywood' Brown on the field for them in time for the postseason run.
According to James Palmer, the Chiefs might get a major boost at WR in time for the postseason.
Coming into the 2024 season, the Chiefs landed Brown in free agency as their primary offensive target, and he immediately started to display real chemistry with Patrick Mahomes in offseason training activities and private workouts with the Chiefs quarterback.
Once the preseason began, however, Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury while being tackled after making his very first catch in live competition. He was later ruled out for several weeks, which led to a stint on injured reserve where subsequent surgery was needed and his timeline was stretched to a lost season.
That said, per Palmer, it appears that notion might have been spread too soon. Given the knowledge that the Chiefs regularly play into February, it extends the calendar for a potential return to the field for a player like Brown. And given the Chiefs' needs at the position, it would certainly be a most welcome sight to have Brown back in the fold and ready to play when it matters most.
In the interim, the Chiefs traded for DeAndre Hopkins in a deal with the Tennessee Titans just two weeks before the NFL's trade deadline. After losing Brown and Rashee Rice for the season, the need was there and that's before JuJu Smith-Schuster was also declared out for the short term with a hamstring injury.
Brown had 51 catches for 574 receiving yards last season for the Arizona Cardinals in 14 games.
