The Kansas City Chiefs didn't waste much time finding a resolution to the Wanya Morris situation. Just two days after ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Morris and the Chiefs had agreed to explore trade options, Kansas City has officially dealt the former third-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Chiefs are reportedly sending Morris and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Falcons in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick, per Fowler. The move brings an end to Morris' three-year stint in Kansas City and gives the 25-year-old offensive tackle an opportunity to start fresh elsewhere.

Fowler reported earlier this week that the Chiefs were "exploring trade options" for Morris, as the Georgia native was frustrated with his playing time. That's probably a fair assessment on his part, given that he was likely going to be at best OT4 on the roster entering 2026.

Josh Simmons and Jaylon Moore appear locked in as Kansas City's starting tackles, with former UDFA Esa Pole the favorite to be the top backup swing tackle. The writing was on the wall.

Chiefs trade Wanya Morris to the Falcons in a swap of Day 3 draft picks

Morris entered the league as a third-round pick in 2023 and started 15 games across his first two NFL seasons. He provided valuable depth for a Chiefs team that dealt with its fair share of offensive line injuries during that stretch.

Unfortunately, his role shrank in 2025 as he started just one game, and he entered minicamp this year competing with the likes of Ethan Driskell, Kahlil Benson, and Chu Godrick for one of the top backup tackle spots.

Not exactly an ideal position for a player with 16 career starts entering the final year of his rookie deal. Instead of fighting for a roster spot, Morris will now head to Atlanta with a chance to carve out a larger role.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, pick up slightly improved draft compensation while clearing space in an increasingly crowded tackle room. It's not a blockbuster trade, nor was it ever going to be. Still, it's a move that makes sense for everyone involved.

Morris gets a fresh start. The Falcons add an experienced depth piece with starting experience. The Chiefs avoid carrying a player who was looking for a bigger opportunity elsewhere and turn him into a modest draft asset in the process.

A win-win deal for everyone involved.
